Here’s a little secret: over at Akiyaz, we do weekend retreats for curated groups of interesting people curious about the whole rural lifestyle thing. So if that sounds like you, you might consider signing up for our event calendar here.
This time around, we opted to provide our group of 8 with a pretty cool 1-2 punch of camping and scuba diving. Now that I know this is a thing that someone has combined, I think it’s an excellent, even natural, combination, though prior to discovering the particular campsite with a dive shop next to it, this had never occurred to me.
So that’s a nice surprise, and really one of the major components of our retreats - not just novel, but also surprising or serendipitous experiences. If yr interested in hearing more about the many opportunities I provide discerning adventurists, get in touch!
The Restaurant: Mayur

I think its probably an international phenomenon, but I look at some of the restaurants along otherwise barren stretches of rural highway and often wonder, how the hell do they make ends meet? Like, even if its really good, this location is garbage, so what gives?
This is what I thought about Mayur. There’s a campground next to it, and 2 other very uninspired Japanese restaurants, and then that’s it for like 2 miles in either direction. But, as a responsible host, I wanted to check in on possible alternatives to barbecuing as well as vegetarian options, so Indian looked quite attractive.
I am so glad I scoped this place out, so that when we were actually down there and it came up as an option, I confidently took my patrons there and we were not disappointed.
Excellent naan, great portions, a surprisingly varied menu, notably spicy hot sauce, and a rooftop porch to dine outside, Mayur more than delivered.
