That’s Musky.

Header image from a TechCrunch article about Elon Twitter.

So after Elon whipped his billions around again with much aplomb and very little thought, the internet is abuzz with discord (no, not that one) and dissent. Which platform to head to now that the guy who’s last name means “Whiff of Balls” has corrupted yet more of the weak minds of the world?

Mastodon has come up. And, being curious, I got the app. And started using it. First impression? Eh.

Mixi has also popped up, and I laugh at that. Domestic Japanese tech has been garbage for decades now, let’s not reboot the flagship of all that patheticness, yeah?

Which brings me to my point: holy fuck folx, there’s already cool shit out there that won’t disappoint. Robust things that protesters in politically hot areas rely on, like Signal (the open source protocol of which also powers, like, all messenger apps, albeit bastardized).

There’s Bridgefy, which disaster preparedness folx (myself included) rely on for when the cell and wifi networks go down via (gasp) mesh networks. I myself am a big fan of this one given my personal experience with disasters.

Check out Bridgefy

There’s also discord (yes, that one). It’s not yet jumped the shark, though I do get the sense that it’s combining all of the bad developments that went down with the likes of Telegram & Reddit mixed in with the good that those same platforms and others have provided. Still, a very good platform for federated comms.
